It will work like a big battery, storing energy by pumping water more than 600 metres uphill from one reservoir to another.
The 900 MW 8-hour pumped hydro project will help NSW replace coal-fired power and support the addition of more renewables to our energy system.
Quick facts
It will work like a big battery, storing energy by pumping water more than 600 metres uphill from one reservoir to another.
When required, water will be quickly released and run through the turbines to produce electricity.
At 900 MW for 8 hours, the project would generate up to 7,200 MWh (7.2 GWh) which could power over 600,000 homes.
